Ottawa University Athletics Masterplan
Ottawa, KS
2021
In the Spring of 2021, I was asked by my former mentor from AECOM, David Devore to help him develop the design wing at Mammoth Sports Construction. I joined originally as a design consultant and helped bring instant credibility to the start-up. One of the first projects I was asked to help with was an athletics masterplan at Ottawa University in Ottawa, KS. Previously, while employed as a project architect at SFS Architecture, I designed the new press box at OU Braves Field, the University’s new eSports arena and initialized the concept for what would become the Brave’s Athletic Performance Center. Mammoth had won the contract to build the state-of-the-art BAPC Olympic weight training facility.
Already having a great relationship with the OU Athletic Director, Mammoth asked me do do a facility assessment and cast the vision for a new athletic campus on the Southeast corner at the existing Baseball, Softball & Soccer fields. The initial needs assessment identified a greater need for classroom space, student athlete accommodations, student life amenities, Baseball & Softball clubhouses with premium spectator accommodations, soccer press box , tennis courts, and the Center for Allied Studies.
The major need & exciting building is the first of it’s kind indoor practice facility geared towards the women’s flag football program at Ottawa University. The goal was to join the Kansas City market as being the leader in Women’s sports. A women’s sports hall of fame was going to be the jewel piece of the campus.
