North Charleston Aquatic Center*
North Charleston, SC
2017-2018
*A SGA Architecture project.
In 2017, the City of North Charleston was looking to upgrade their aquatics facilities that were becoming obsolete. The goal was to create an aquatic center that would rival other regional aquatic centers and also become home of the US Olympic trials. The 45,000 SF aquatic center features a 25-meter therapeutic warm water pool with accessible ramp entry, and a competition 50-meter, 10-lane Olympic pool. The 10-lane pool allows the City to accommodate larger swim meets and can be divided into two 25-meter pools via bulkhead. Spectator seating for 1,000 is retractable which, allows for additional deck area for training sessions. Other amenities included are concessions, a pro shop, locker rooms, and classroom, office, meeting spaces and a grand lobby which accommodates the competition traffic.
