During the Pickle4 Ballpark Series, I was put in contact with GMR Marketing who was planning on delivering a pickleball event on the JFK Hockey Fields on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. with Humana and the Trust for the National Mall.

To this point, there have not been many pickleball events hosted on turf but in 2023, there were three; Fenway, Oracle & the National Mall. Kansas City’s own Rob Riggle was the emcee and many high profile professional athletes were on hand for the inaugural event where Rob coined the term “Hot Smash!”

Taking lessons learned from the previous events and I designed an event space with 8 courts for tournament and amateur play and a championship court pavilion that played host to the main attraction events.
